Hole #4 Glendale Hamilton ON - Yong Woo Kim (Justin) takes advantage of course knowledge and comfort to gain his second win in as many events this season. Glendale Golf and Country Club was playing it's tricky self with it's uneven lies and sloping greens and it's par 72 layout was only tamed by two players. Kim (Wedgewood Golf Centre) fired 5 under par 67 to hold on for a two shot victory over Reggie Millage (Glen Abbey Academy). Millage's 69 was solo second by 3 shots as Ed Maunder (Deerfield) posted and even par 72 to finish alone in third spot. Glendale's own Jeff Lunn (Glendale) and Mark Napier (Glen Abbey) round out the top 5 with their scores of 75. The Race to the John H. Davis Cup is heating up...

Hidden Lake Burlington ON - The weather forecast was very much a factor on Monday at Hidden Lake Golf Club as most guys were expecting rain and poor conditions throughout the day. However, the rain never materialized and scoring was equal in both morning and afternoon draws. Justin Kim (Wedgewood Golf Centre) was in control on Monday and knew starting his round that something in the 60's was going to be a good score. With Jim Zwolak (Glen Abbey Academy) making eagle three on the Par 5 18th hole on Hidden Lake Golf Club's New Course, he was the only player in the morning to post a score under par. Zwolak was the clubhouse leader with a one under par 70. Justin Kim, who was playing in his first Golden Horseshoe Tour event, made 6 birdies and 4 bogies to post his 69 which was good enough for an outright win over Zwolak. Jim Kenesky (Tees Indoor Golf) and Ed Maunder (Deerfield) posted rounds of even par 71 to round out the top 3. Finishing alone in fifth place was Rick Sovereign (Hidden Lake) who carded a 73.... #17 at Trafalgar G&CC Milton ON - On a day where 6 players were in the hunt for the season long John H. Davis Cup title, one thing was certain, someone was going to be victorious. That someone was Alf Callowhill (Glen Abbey Academy). Callowhill played in the first group of the day and posted a 1 under par 70 on the 6600 yard par 71 Trafalgar G&CC. The morning players dealt with misty, breezy, and cool conditions. Yet even though the breeze subsided in the afternoon, all players were still dealing with wet course conditions. With the win, Callowhill captured the John H. Davis Cup and becomes the Golden Horseshoe Tour Champion for 2011. He also went from third to first on the GHT Money List. Callowhill's season was one of the strongest campaigns in recent years, where he won two events outright (Trafalgar, King's Forest) and split medalist honours in another (Granite Ridge). Finishing alone in second spot at Trafalgar was Reggie Millage (Glen Abbey Academy) with an even par 71. In a log jam for third spot at 72 were four players, included were, Jim Zwolak (Braeben Academy), Host Professional Fraser McIntyre (Trafalgar G&CC), Brian Hutton (Southbrook G&CC), and Rick Sovereign (Hidden Lake GC). The Golden Horseshoe Tour would like to thank Fraser McIntyre and all the staff at Trafalgar Golf & Country Club for all their hospitality. The next event on the GHT schedule is the Two Man Team Event at Glendale G&CC on Monday October 17th. There will be much excitement this Monday at Trafalgar Golf & Country Club in Milton ON as up to 6 players have a chance to capture the John H. Davis Cup and become the overall Champion for the 2011 Golden Horeseshoe Tour. Eddie Maunder (Deerfield GC) leads the way with 18 points in 6 events played. The winner is determined by the player whom accumulates the least amount of points in their best 5 of 7 events. Following close behind Maunder is Alf Callowhill (Glen Abbey Academy) 20 points in 6 events played and Ron Kenesky (Hidden Lake GC) 21 points in 6 events played. Jim Zwolak (Braeben Academy) sits near the lead with 23 points in 5 events played. With 4 events played, and looking in from the outside with no room for error are Reggie Millage (Glen Abbey Academy) 15 points and Jim Kenesky (Hidden Lake GC) 19 points. A win on Monday at Trafalgar will certainly go a long way for any one of the six players near the lead, and with a little outside luck, it could seal the deal. It will definitely be a fun day to watch the results and is expected to be one of the largest fields of the year. Stay tuned as results will be posted shortly after the conclusion of play on Monday.

Davis Cup standings please click here Burlington ON - Brian Hutton (Southbrook GC) closed the deal Monday on Hidden Lake's New Course by firing a 5 under par 31 on the back 9 to shoot 69 and win by one shot. Hutton was not looking good after nine holes, where he was 3 over par for his round sitting on the tenth tee. He went on to birdie holes #10, #12, #14, #17 and #18. Hutton recently went back to the claw putting grip and is having a great stretch of golf over the last couple weeks. Most recent he fired 30 on his final nine at the Ontario PGA Senior Championship to get himself in a playoff where he eventually lost to Ken Tarling. Ron Kenesky (Hidden Lake GC) and Jim Kenesky (Hidden Lake GC) posted morning rounds of 1 under par 70 to finish in a tie for second place. Jim Zwolak (Braeben Academy) finished in fourth alone with a score of 72. While Eddie Maunder (Deerfield GC) and David Banks (Within Range) finished tied for fifth with rounds of 73.
Monday's event was this years biggest field and the race to the John H. Davis Cup is heating up with only one event left to play. The standings are so close that the winner won't be crowned until the end of the final event. The GHT would like to thank John Cormier, Terry Parker, George Tidd, and the Hidden Lake staff for a great day at their club. The final event on the schedule is set to go on Monday, October 3rd at Trafalgar Golf & Country Club. To view results click Read More |
