McAleavey & Kenesky
Ancaster ON - The morning on Monday saw consistent rain, and the afternoon was dry with ideal scoring conditions at Heron Point. Event #7 on the GHT schedule saw some big moves made by two new winnners on the season. Ciaran McAleavey (Glen Abbey) who currently is having a very respectable season, and Jim Kenesky (Tees Indoor Golf) fired 2 under par 69 on the par 71 Heron Point layout. Both McAleavey and Kenesky played in the final two groups of the afternoon wave and took advantage of prime scoring conditions. McAleavey's round started fast with birdies on holes 2, 4, and 8 to go 3 under par through 8 holes. His round got even better with birdies at holes 14 and 15 to get him to 4 under par for his round through 16 holes. However, an untimely double bogey on the par 5 17th and finishing par gave him his 2 under total of 69. Kenesky's round started a little slower as he made double bogey on the par 4 5th but followed it up with a birdie on the par 5 6th. Kenesky made the turn at 1 over par and then made bogey at ten....
Through 16 holes Kenesky was even par and then made an unlikely eagle 3 on the par 5 17th. The resulting 4 shot swing tied McAleavey and Kenesky for the win.
Other Notable scores from the day came from Yong Woo Kim (Golf Town Burlington) and Conor O'Shea (Piper's Heath) who battled the poor conditions in the morning to post 1 under par 70's. Brett Walker (Hidden Lake), Ed Maunder (Deerfield), Fraser McIntyre (Trafalgar G&CC), and Mark Napier (Glen Abbbey) all fired even par 71 to round out the top 5 finishers.
In the Wick Agencies Order of Merit and the Race to the John H. Davis Cup, Yong Woo Kim retakes the lead heading into the final event of the season with 109.4 points. Kim collected 19 points for his T3 finish and now holds a slight 3.07 point lead over Ed Maunder and a 7.4 point lead over Fraser McIntyre. Jim Kenesky moves into striking distance as he sits with 93.5 points after his T1 finish. Brett Walker holds on to 5th spot but has Jim Zwolak (Glen Abbey Academy) and Ciaran McAleavey hot on his heels for the final prize spot. Defending John H. Davis Cup Champion, Alf Callowhill (Glen Abbey Academy) makes it to the final event by 0.4 points over Conor O'Shea. The eight players qualified, will play together in the final two groups at Glencairn on October 9th to determine the 2012 John H. Davis Cup Champion. The point structure will also change slightly to allow for some dramatic moves up and down the leaderboard.
Fraser McIntyre holds on to a slight $11.50 lead in the Trimark Money List over Yong Woo Kim. The winners of both the Trimark Money List and Wick Agencies Order of Merit will receive prizing from both companies.
The Golden Horseshoe Tour would like to thank Head Professional Dan Greenwood and all his staff for their help throughout the day. The next event on the GHT schedule is set to go on Tuesday October 9th at Glencairn Golf Club in Milton ON.
