Yong Woo Kim John H. Davis Cup Champion
Milton ON - As the golf season winds down and most golf professionals are heading into winter hibernation, we sometimes find ourselves looking back on the season that was. The Golden Horseshoe Area Golf Tour finished up their regular schedule on Tuesday with the final event held at Glencairn Golf Club in Milton ON. The par 72 links layout was very scorable and two players were in complete control of their games. Ciaran McAleavey (Glen Abbey), probably the hottest player in the PGA of Ontario over the last portion of the season, fired a 4 under par 68 to share the win with Josh Doan (Rattlesnake Point). Doan did most of his damage on the par 5's as he played them 5 under par. His round featured 7 birdies in total and carded 3 bogeys to complete his round of 68. McAleavey fired an outward nine of 32 where he made 4 birdies in the first 6 holes. He also carded 7 birdies and 3 bogeys to post his 68. Brian Hutton (Southbrook G&CC) and Jim Zwolak (Glen Abbey Academy) finished in a tie for third as they shot 2 under par 70's. Mark Napier (Glen Abbey) most likely had the best chance to win the event outright. Napier made two untimely double bogey 7's on the par 5's late in his front nine to post an outward nine of 39. His back nine featured 4 birdies for an inward score of 32 and a one under par 71 to finish in fifth place alone. In the Playoff portion and the Race to the John H. Davis Cup....

Windy conditions at Glencairn
Yong Woo Kim (Golf Town Burlington) held a slight lead over Ed Maunder (Deerfield GC) and Fraser McIntyre (Trafalgar G&CC) heading into the final event.
Early in the round it looked as though Fraser McIntyre would separate himself from the pack and make a move at Kim's lead. However, in the end as the conditions got cooler and breezy, Kim made some clutch par putts and finished with a birdie to tie McIntyre at even par 72 and clinch the John H. Davis Cup. Ed Maunder started with a birdie but struggled most of the day en route to a round of 76 and falling to third in the overall Wick Agencies Order of Merit. Jim Kenesky (Lowville GC) maintained his fourth place finish with his round of 74. While Ciaran McAleavey moved up to fifth after his second victory of playoffs.
The Trimark Money List was a close race as Fraser McIntyre edged Yong Woo Kim by $11.50 finishing with $2220.75. McIntyre will receive a small package from Trimark Sportswear for his efforts over the course of the season. Earlier in the season, McIntyre also captured the Wick Agencies Senior Order Merit.
The 2012 GHT season was a big success and will see more exciting changes coming for the 2013 season. In all the Tour had 4 outright event winners and 4 events with co-winners. To further showcase the depth of the Tour 33 players made it on to the Trimark Money List and Yong Woo Kim had a scoring average of 70.0 over the 7 events he participated in. The low round of the season was 6 under par 66 shared by Fraser McIntyre and Brian Hutton at Southbrook G&CC. The Pro/Junior Golf Classic was held at Southern Pines G&CC and saw a Junior top the entire field. Nic Ross posted a solid 49 points that was 6 points better then Matt Robinson (Heron Point) and Fraser McIntyre who shared the professional victory.
The Golden Horseshoe Tour would like to thank Tour Partners Wick Agencies, Trimark Sportswear, and The Watermark Taphouse and Grille for their support and generosity throughout the season. The Tour also thanks all the host courses and their staff for allowing us the privilege to be able to compete on their golf courses this year. The GHT is very fortunate to have great partners and golf facilities and without them the Tour would not be a success e. Finally, the GHT would like to thank Mike Grierson and Craig Cupido and all the staff at Glencairn for their help and hosting the final regular event of the season.
